Mr Ganesh Natarajan

Ahmedabad, Dec.19 Nasscom is looking to tie up with Universities in Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Orissa to train manpower for direct recruitment to IT firms, said Mr Ganesh Natarajan, Vice-Chairman, Nasscom, and global Chief Executive Officer, Zensar Technologies Ltd, at the eight edition of the International Entrepreneurship Forum at Mudra Institute of Communication. Mr Natarajan is in town to talk to Nirma University for the same and though the talks are at an early stage, he is hopeful of a tie-up.

“These three States have a huge potential for IT recruitment and we want to replicate what we have done in Pune where we have entered into tripartite agreements with Cisco, Global Tech and several universities. After the training, students can take exams that would qualify them for placements in IT firms across India,” he said.

Slowdown impact

Commenting on the current slowdown in the economy, he said the first six months of the IT industry saw a growth of 24 per cent but the last six months should definitely grow at a slower pace. In the year 2010, the industry can expect to go back to a growth rate of around 25 per cent, according to Mr Natarajan. GDP would grow at 6 to 6.5 per cent in 2009 and small and medium companies, which contribute to 30 per cent of the country’s economy, would be the growth drivers for the coming few years.

At a time when the financial services companies are not doing too well, other sectors that are set to be growth drivers are infrastructure development, gaming and open source uses, he added.
