Carl F. Bucherer plans 15 outlets

KOLKATA: Swiss watch maker Carl F. Bucherer is planning to set up 15 exclusive retail outlets in India during the next two years as part of strategy to go step-by-step in the difficult Indian market, a senior official of the company today said.

Since the launch in India recently, we have selected exclusive shops in Delhi, Chandigarh and Kolkata to retail our watches. We don`t rush as we focus on the right distribution network at the right place and will be setting up around 15 outlets in the next two years in India, Carl F. Bucherer's Area Director Mr David Vallata said.

Priced between 2,000 and 12,000 Swiss franks (Rs 74,000 and Rs 4,45,000), the company will bring in the entire range of its models in India. At least 30 of them will be available for selection at the point of sale.

The company, which had made a mark for itself in jewellery designing, had entered watch-making in October, 2001 in Switzerland and since then had expanded its presence in Hong Kong, China, Taiwan, UAE, Thailand, Germany, Russia and India.

"We will soon be entering Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia, besides Spain, England, Italy and Japan", Mr Vallat said.

To a query, the Area Director said it was expecting to sell 8000 to 10,000 watches worldwide in financial year 2005 of which only around 200 will come from India.

The watches in Kolkata would be available at Rams in the Metro Shopping Centre, he said. - PTI
