Modernisation Logistics - Trade & Labour Unions Most AAI employees reject Delhi airport co's incentive offer Ashwini Phadnis
Official sources told Business Line that of the 2,344 AAI employees working at Delhi airport, less than 200 have taken up the incentive scheme of DIAL, the new joint venture company modernising the airport. While DIAL officials refused to give an exact figure of the number of employees that have opted for the offer, union officials indicated that about 165 employees had joined the new company. In December last year, the DIAL board approved a proposal offering a host of benefits including a one-time lump sum joining bonus ranging between Rs 25,000 and Rs 60,000. In addition, all general employees were offered two increments on their basic salary, in their current scale, apart from protecting their effect of revision of pay and allowances that were due from January this year. DIAL extended the validity of the offer twice with the last extension expiring on February 28.
`No impact'
"The employees who have not taken up the offer will continue to work at Delhi airport and be with the company for the next three years after which they would revert to AAI. The employee decision not to join will in no way affect our plans as we are already looking for more staff to upgrade the airport," the official DIAL spokesman said. The Operation, Management, Development, Agreement (OMDA) mandates DIAL absorbs 60 per cent of the employees within three years. DIAL, however, had made the incentive offer to allay employee fears on a number of issues including career continuity. DIAL is a joint venture company with the participation from the GMR group, the operators of Frankfurt airport, Fraport, Malaysia Airport and AAI.
