MSN India in pact with 5 more mobile players

Bangalore , Dec. 14

HOTMAIL users can now receive e-mails via SMS. MSN and Mobile 365, a mobile messaging and data services company, have entered into strategic alliances with five mobile operators in India.

The US-based Mobile 365 reaches 500 mobile operators around the world.

In December 2004, MSN India and Mobile 365 forged similar alliances with Airtel and BPL Mobile. Earlier this year, MSN India launched MSN Hotmail and Messenger via two-way SMS with Hutch. The five new alliances are with Reliance India Mobile, Reliance GSM, Tata Teleservices, Spice Punjab and Spice Karnataka.

The service is currently available to over 30 per cent of the Indian mobile user base, which stands at around 72 million. MSN and Mobile 365 expect to expand the service to cover 100 per cent of the Indian mobile market very soon.

Users will also be able to reply to e-mail directly using SMS.

Mr Mahesh Prasad, President, Reliance India Mobile, said, "The `MSN Messenger over SMS' service is a form of two-way SMS." Users can keep in touch with family and friends via their mobile phone simply by creating and saving a mobile MSN Messenger number for each of their buddies. Mobile 365 has tied up with 180 mobile operators worldwide.
