Alliances & Joint Ventures Uppal Group joins hands with Marriott International Our Bureau New Delhi, July 30 Real estate developer The Uppal Group has announced a tie-up with Marriott International to manage and operate its new 5-Star hotels, one in Gurgaon and the other near Chandigarh, entailing total investment of about Rs 500 crore. The company has also outlined plans to build 10-12 hotels in the next five years, for which it is talking to various hotel chains. “We see hospitality as an extension of real estate and are keen to get into it in a big way. We already have one operational hotel (Uppal’s Orchid), while two new hotels will come up in Gurgaon, and near Chandigarh. In all we plan to have 10-12 hotels operational in the next five years in locations such as Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai amongst others,” Mr Manish Uppal, Managing Director of The Uppal Group, said. He said that land acquisition for some of the new hotel properties had commenced but declined to divulge the investment details for the company’s hospitality blueprint. He added that the company had a separate game plan for budget hotels. Meanwhile, the company has signed up with Marriott International for managing and operating the two upcoming hotels under the JW Marriott Hotel brand. The Gurgaon property, located on NH-8, is spread over an area of 12.5 acres and entails a total project investment of Rs 325 crore. “This will be a 210-key hotel and is expected to be operational by March next year,” he said.
