Patna, Dec 4:
The Bihar Government has distributed about six lakh radio sets among Mahadalits, a sub-group of poor Dalit castes, across the State to make them aware of Government welfare schemes, the State Assembly was informed on Tuesday.
The Government has set a target to distribute 21 lakh radio sets among Mahadalits by 2014, SC/ST Welfare Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi said.
The Minister said the distribution was being carried out district-wise with the Government choosing two brands, Phillips and Santosh.

RADIO IMPACT ON MAHADALITS : Let us have a closer look into the lives of the
Mahadalits of Bihar ,how they spend their days and nights.Compelled to live under
sub-human conditions for lack of resources, the whole family including their
women and children go to menial work to get together two square meals at the
mud hut they call home. What changes can a radio bring into their lives ? Since
radio is a one way communication device and has been used for propaganda and
brain washing since Hitler era, the goal of distributing zillions of radio sets is not
any different now. Mandated by the commander in chief of Bihar and rigorously
implemented by the Dalit welfare minister Mr.Jitan Ram Manjhi is a clear indication
that the politics of Bihar is in the process of recomposition. This generous gift from
the scam-stuck CM is in stark contrast to the actual needs of these downtrodden
people ,which is food, shelter, health and education.None of them is blared through
a radio set.Distribute food.
